In 1995, 85% of young people who were in the labour force had a job, and most worked full-time. The employment patterns of young people are quite different from those of older people. Many young people combine part-time work with full-time study, either at school or in further education, and it is often not until they reach the upper end of the youth age range that they take their first full-time job.  The employment experiences of young people can have an important impact on their later employment prospects.
